This is the Great Virtual Author Tour!

Dear gentlefolk of all ages...

It is my great delight to announce the debut of my long awaited mostly by me and perhaps my corgi, Kit, so I can take him out for longer walks in the newly crisp weather short story collection, The Trouble With Wanting, and Other Not Quite Faerie Tales, available on November 13th, 2018. I have gathered 7 stories, featuring characters never seen before, as well as the new adventures of old favorites (more Yuuki anyone?).

Cover art by Michelle Kennedy. Find her on her blog and Instagram.

One of those new characters, Izzy, knows all too well of the pain book nerds suffer while we're waiting for our next dose of literary magic. She's even willing to do something contrary to her nature to get her fix. While we all aren't book nerds, many of us do have things we are quite serious about (sports, TV shows, comics, etc.). People who are serious about their passions have been known to do some very strange things to support them. What was the oddest thing you have done (or have considered doing) in the name of your passion?

Tell me about it in the comments section, you'll be enrolled in the first give-away I'm running.

A package of Nippon Kodo sandalwood incense,
3 bags of Harney & Son's hot cinnamon spice tea,
& 3 bookmarks handmade by me.

For a bonus entry, share this post on the social media platform of your choice (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and please make sure to use the hashtag #NotQuiteFaerieTales. The contest closes on midnight EST November 25th, and I'll announce the winner on the 26th.

If you are not a regular reader of my blog, if you haven’t liked my Facebook page, or we aren’t friends on Instagram, please make sure you add your email to the comment. I need to be able to contact you if you win. If I have no way to contact the winner, a new name will be drawn.

This contest is open worldwide, except where prohibited by law. Canadian friends I will have to ask you to include the next letter in the sequence, A, B, __ in your response in order to enter.

I'll also be doing more giveaways as I make the rounds at the virtual homes of several blogger friends. I hope you'll follow me on my virtual author tour.

November 13th - Magaly Guerrero -What's a Little Blood to a Mother's Heart?
November 15th - MagicLoveCrow - Journeying Into the Dark to Find the Light
November 17th - Daydream Believer - Scary Faeries Make Helpful Friends
November 19th - Poets United - Blog of the Week: Rommy Driks
November 21st - She Who Seeks - Writing "Her Story"

There will be a wrap up post here again on November 26th, along with a final, fancier giveaway.

Good luck everyone, I hope you enjoy the tales and tea!

The Trouble with Wanting and Other Not-Quite Faerie Tales is available for purchase on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

  1. First things first, Congratulations!

Then, I guess I shall reveal my nerdy doings *sigh*.

Once, I drove over 300 hundred miles, just so that I could get a copy of The Subtle Knife, the second book in His Dark Materials series, by Philip Pullman. The ridiculous amount of driving was not what made this a tad... nutty, but the fact that if I had waited, I could've bought the book about 12 hours later. Anyway, I would not change a thing--reading the book before everyone else still fills my heart with slightly-insane-nerdy-warmth.

    1. Oh yeah, I'd do that for a good book too, no question. I remember staying until midnight for Harry Potter book releases too, and savoring the book in the wee small hours of the morning.

  2. I don't recall doing anything desperate, other than abuse my credit card to continuously buy books. I find myself saying "I really shouldn't, but just one book..." Ha! I'll never get my credit card paid off at this rate, but I've got to read!

    1. OMG, yes... just one more book won't hurt. And I'm sure I'll read through the 20+ ahead of the new one in my to-read pile soon.

A used bookstore opened up on the drive between home and work... Pray for my credit card! 😂

  3. Congratulations, my beautiful friend! So thrilled to see your name grace the cover of your first published work! You've already been victim to my regular obsessed-fan Facebook posts, but I'll mention it here for you once more. As a baseball fan, I've traveled to games across the country, stood in line to meet players, shown up at locations likely to have players in attendance, and tormented my friends & family with my crazy fan-girl issues. I now have a room in my home dedicated to the spoils of my efforts: autographed balls, photos, logo merchandise, books, and banners. The collection grows each season, and I may need a bigger house to fit it all!

    1. Andie...I have to confess. The Phillies obsessed fairy guarding a tree in one of my stories was strongly insired by you. I almost named her Andie.

You know I'm not much into sportsball, but I love all of the excitement you and my other friends have when you talk about it.

  5. Rommy, I’m thrilled and proud of you. Congratulations.

Wow, it’s fun to enter your contest/raffle after all of mine that you have entered.

Oddest thing I’ve ever done to pursue my passion? I’ve spent something like the last 35 years working professionally as a shaman. Good grief!

    Much love,

    1. That indeed shows an intense level of dedication! Spiritual seeking is a big passion of mine (LOL, I know you're *quite* aware of that). Thirty-five years is an amazing amount of time spent in service to others; it really gives me the warm fuzzies when I think about all the love and care folks like you bring to the world.

  7. Congrats Rommy!! I am so happy for you!!! I love the cover Shelle did! This is all so exciting!! I know this might not sound odd, but in the summer time, I cut my hair all off. I lost alot of my hair when I was sick and for many years, I would still keep trying to cover up. Well, I basically shaved it off and showed me! It was freeing! I think you have to be you, in order to follow your passion! Listen to your heart! I was "hiding". Not anymore! Big Hugs!

    1. That sounds hella fierce and liberating! It's amazing how powerful it can be to change something about our appearance so we can more fully embrace who we are.

With me, it was my curls. I spent so many years trying to straighten it (unsuccessfully, I might add). One day I just decided to let it do it's thing, and with a nice hair cut, I've been happier ever since.

I am so glad you aren't hiding anymore! *hugs*

I'm happy I'm not hiding anymore either!
      Big Hugs!

  9. Many congrats on the book! My passion is gardening and I will make myself lame to get my fix of weeding and working there....even when sick or right home from the hospital I could be found there....so much healing there.

    1. I grew up in an apartment with plastic plants, so I didn't know how intense of a pastime gardening could be until I became an adult. Several friends and acquaintances of mine are devoted gardeners, and I have heard how healing and fulfilling overall gardening is. LOL, I have a lot of lost years to make up for, so I mostly stick with easy to manage things like mint in a pot.

  10. I have to go check out your book. I'm a crazy blogger too like Debra. I love reading but my real passion is baking. I always wanted to open a bakery but I'm getting on in my years and I'm having trouble getting things done. I'll have that bakery in another lifetime.

    1. Mmm...what a delicious hobby! I'll bet your friends and family are happy you have that hobby too. :D

Yeah, I imagine it would be a crazy amount of work for a bakery. We have a really lovely one in town. They must be up even before I am to have all their goodies ready for breakfast rush. I love treating myself to a croissant there every now and again.

  12. Woohoo! I'm so excited for your first book to come out, dear Rommy!!!!

I would love to enter your first giveaway too! The oddest thing I've ever done for my passion is to try painting a live fast moving sunset in watercolor while steering a canoe by myself down a flowing river!

    1. That sounds seriously exciting and challenging! Watercolor is not the most forgiving medium when you are standing still. I'm impressed. How did it turn out?

  13. I adore watercolor and it's forgiving to me hehe. It turned out messy which was just fine by me :) That way when I look at it, it reminds me of the experience even more :)

    1. LOL, I think I should change my approach to watercolor then. I love how you embraced the "messiness" as just part of the overall experience.

  14. Being messy, quick and spontaneous is a perfect remedy for loosening up and having fun with watercolor!
