Morning walks in the fall always feed my soul, but today I am especially greedy for the gulps of air I get from the spirited winds flowing over my county. I need this moment to feel my breath flowing in and out of lungs that have so far stayed strong. I need this bit of peace… because who knows what will blow in on those winds?
Sweet crisp air cleanses
the stale breath I’ve been holding
before hell breaks loose.

This haibun was inspired by the Weekly Scribblings prompt on Poets and Storytellers United,
The Eye of the Storm
That's a pretty GROOVY vote image! May it all turn out well!
ReplyDeleteUnsplash has some really nifty images
DeleteGreat Haiku and I really hope the election works out well for you
ReplyDeleteMy beloved Philadelphia and her surrounding counties brought it home!
DeleteThe best way to get things out of your system, Rommy, gulping down the autumn air. Your haiku says it all.
ReplyDeleteThe long walks were self-care as we waited for the results.
DeleteLet us hope and pray that your country can rid itself of the demon and the scourge upon the nation.I think we all have a fair idea of what will blow in those winds. Take care.
ReplyDeleteIt did! Now let's hope that the transition of power goes smoothly. *nervous smile*
DeleteWonderful haibun.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can even imagine how it must feel to be American this moment.
It's a rollercoaster. Even now, after Biden won, there's so many emotions about the break down of the results (republican strongholds getting shaky, things that were considered easy wins being anything but).
DeleteIt is a pity that US politics is so divided and hurtful to so many. Luckily two terms is the maximum and poets can let off steam by writing about it!
ReplyDeleteThe orange menace is only getting one! Though he says he plans to try again in 2024.
DeleteVery apropos. It will be a while, no matter what the final result is, before many will be able to stop holding our breaths.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Right now it's still "projected winner" though it isn't likely that will change. And we have the whole transfer of power thing to go through.
DeleteThis is a beautiful haibun .... today, when I take my walk under blue skies and warm sun I will breathe deeply, deeply. And let stress dissolve.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen
DeleteBrief, impressive, real. It's rather horrible waiting for the final result, much like waiting for surgery.
ReplyDelete~cie from poetry of the netherworld~
Surgery and a biopsy result.
Deleteshinrin-yoku always a good method for contemplation and soothing the soul
ReplyDelete"but today I am especially greedy for the gulps of air"
Enjoyed the music video and the hope thst lies in the singer's words that ee are hesding to Venus
Much💙love
Shinrin-yoku is always a good place to start if I need to find my center.
DeleteA deep breath of that crisp autumn air is good for the soul. All of us in America are white-knuckling the vote count, while our egomaniac leader has given his acceptance speech before all votes are counted.
ReplyDeleteI had a bit of schadenfreude at the mix up between the Four Seasons hotel in Philadelphia and The Four Seasons landscape company, located between an adult bookstore and crematorium.
DeleteOh yeah. THAT is how the haibun is done. A great thing to read while practicing some yoga breaths. Well done, Rommy
ReplyDeleteWoot! Thank you for the kind words Ron
DeleteNice Haibun, been there. When we would have a hurricane we would pull the picnic table into the living room to keep it from blowing away; we sat on the top with feet on the seats and then would watch the trees bend to the ground out back. Once we had 33 inches of water in our home.
ReplyDeleteHead under covers
Ostrich eyes they call me
What's going on out there
Thanks for the nice prompt.
..
Whoa... that's swimming pool levels of water!
DeleteI actually exhaled when I finished reading this one. I was going to apologize for my late reading--things are being a tad mad around here--but I won't. I'm glad I waited, for this is the perfect piece for me today. I feel like we are still being beaten by the wind. But knowing that we can hold each other up, while we wait for what comes next, is a really good thing.
ReplyDeleteI am breathing "before hell breaks loose."
LOL, I imagine they were quite mad! I am glad to have been a part of helping your day be a little more peaceful.
DeleteWonderful Haibun Rommy - I do so hope the election is going your way.
ReplyDeleteJust checked and it does look like the voting is rooting for Biden...
It sure does! The press is calling him President Elect.
DeleteI'm really hoping you're breathing easy, by now...right now! <3
ReplyDeleteI heard the news that Biden was projected to win in tea class and lost my Zen-like composure. LOL, but yes, breathing a bit better now.
DeleteEven the 2nd time around...Haibunilicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ron!
DeleteI'm thinking dragon's fire with hell breaking loose. I have been breathing more easier since the election results.
ReplyDeleteDragon's fire... alt-right ire... they might not be so far apart.
DeleteThe winds will scatter the leaves now that many have exhaled. The debris may push here and there, but after awhile, calm. It always is.
ReplyDeleteEurope is perfect!
I look forward to that calm.
DeleteThe county air in the fall. What lungs wouldn't be cleansed and refreshed! Oh, I love The Final Countdown!
ReplyDeleteI am fortunate enough to live in a very beautiful county. Fall here is amazing.
DeleteI so agree. The nation heaved a sigh of relief ... well half of it did anyway. The other half seem determined to believe the lies they've been force fed for the past four years. Hopefully our new President can bring the country together once more. At least he's restoring decency, integrity and truth to the White House, and won't be fanning the flames of discontent as did his predecessor.
ReplyDeleteWe need someone who will dedicate themselves to decency, seeing as how we've had so precious little of it from the orange occupant.
DeleteNow we can walk and breathe at the same time. Love the VOTE image!
ReplyDeleteYes we can!!!
DeleteAlways sending my American friends love and peace!!! Great write! Big Hugs!
