against myself. I am done
being tired all the time
from fighting a war
I don’t remember starting.
I’d like to recall
all the spies that burrowed
into my darkest recesses
to use everything they found
against me.
Is any armistice enough
to let the imprisoned parts
dare the sunlight
or
will they stay in their cells
even while knowing
that no doors could never exist
that they didn't have the key to?

Liner Notes For This Groove: This poem was created for the Weekly Scribblings prompt at Poets and Storytellers United, War is Over, If You Want It.
Hmmm, a very interesting take on the prompt – the war against (within) oneself. Which is where many teachers say we should start if we are to achieve any wider peace.
ReplyDeleteI always have to find the weird way to do things :D
DeleteTime for a cease fire☺ nice one
ReplyDeleteGood Wednesday
Much❤love
Thanks, Gillena
DeleteWe all do, and did where we did it. But as of late they all come back, ISIS and The Afghan (NATO pulled) situation the latest. People suffer when the job doesn't/can't be done.
ReplyDeleteI like your Peace Sign light, I have lost my necklace.
..
It's a sad situation, yes
DeleteI absolutely love your take on the prompt, Rommy. It takes the concept of war and makes it as personal as it gets... in a feast rich in imagery and metaphor. I think this would be an excellent poem to sit down and discuss (and devour) with a group of people.
ReplyDeleteOooh! I am so delighted by that comment!
DeleteThe war within, and we are so often our own worst enemy. If we extend to ourselves the forgiveness and understanding we extend to others, how different our world would become.
ReplyDeleteYep. Everyone can benefit from the gift of compassion, including ourselves.
DeleteGorgeous:
ReplyDelete“Is any armistice enough
to let the imprisoned parts
dare the sunlight”

DeleteAll that needs changing is a mind, eh?
ReplyDeleteThat's all :D
DeleteI second the call for cease fire, because I relate to this line "I am done / being tired all the time..." Brilliant write, Rommy.
ReplyDeleteI think its a very relatable feel all over the world right now.
DeleteEven when keys are metaphoric ones, as in my poem today. These are trying and tiring times for sure.
ReplyDeleteMetaphors aren't all that far off these days.
DeleteGreat take on the prompt.
ReplyDeletefighting a war within oneself. takes great strength, but can be won.
We can often fight pretty dirty when it comes to fighting ourselves, but yes, it can be done.
DeleteSeems our bad choices and mistakes persist in hanging around to haunt us Cease fire and let go! The most difificult lesson in forgiveness is to extend to ourselves the forgiveness we so freely extend to others......at least that's my humble opinion!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a hard lesson to be sure
DeleteWhat a great write! the war within is the oddest war of all
ReplyDeleteThank you Audrey
Delete"will they stay in their cells
ReplyDeleteeven while knowing
