Warmth Exists

Ceaseless wind scours
my lips raw on this winter day.
The sun does its best
to remind me warmth exists
if my will is to seek it.

    1. And thank goodness it's getting a little stronger every day, at least near me.

  3. This one sings to my winter-exhausted soul! Love the imagery, the truth of it, and the delight it evokes. So beautifully uplifting.

    1. Thanks, Magaly. I hadn't attempted a tanka in a while, and although today is nice-ish I wanted to write something to remind me of warmth in advance of the chilly weekend ahead. Brrrrrrrrr.

  4. What is this "sun", of which thou speaketh? New snow just started, will last, and is set to accumulate to 12-15 inches.

    1. Yeah, my plans to go into Philly's Chinatown look like they are on hold. Rain, no problem. Snow, eh, depends on the accumulation. Ice? I can keep my butt where its warm.

  5. I'm already lamenting that Autumn is here DownUnder, and we didn't even have a decent Summer (just lots and lots of rain). Had to get up and put another blanket on the bed last night, in the wee small hours. I guess I should rather be thankful I don't have to experience the serious cold that you face!

  6. Very dry and sunny here...temps rising steadily ahead of summer.. a cold wind might actually be welcome!!! Though metaphorically speaking.. I agree.. given the state of the world, a little hope would be nice.

  8. The weather you describe feels sadly appropriate. It was warm and sunny here today, and it was almost jarring in light of what's happening in Ukraine. Thanks for your words.

    1. Its shine does feel almost obscene sometimes because of all of the heartache happening in the world today. But then I remember that nothing that brings lightness to the human heart can ever be obscene, and allow myself to take the comfort offered.

  9. The reminder that warmth exists, regardless, is so heartfelt. Thank you.

    1. Thank you, Khaya. Yes, while this piece can be interpreted several ways, the way you are interpreting it is what was in my heart when I wrote it. Finding the sunlight where we can isn't always easy, but it's worth trying.
