An Unburied Breath

An unburied breath
can remember its own name
even in the witching hour.
Dreams of my youth startle me
by how bright and close they seem.

Liner Notes for this Groove: This poem is linked to Poets and Storytellers United's Friday Writings, Modern Marvels. The modern invention I'm most grateful for is my new C-PAP machine. Best sleep I've had in ages!

  1. The dreams of my youth seem very far away now.

    1. There are some dreams of my youth that aren't happening anytime soon (me singing with Tina Turner comes to mind, LOL). But the dream of a sound sleep, like the kind I had when I was in my 30s, (no interruptions and feeling refreshed) are all within my reach.

  2. Dreams of childhood, how many come true? I didn't, still, dream or imagine.

    1. This thing was a lifesaver when I went away on a romantic weekend with the hubby. We stayed up too late, but even with the shortened amount of sleep I was ready to take on exploring a new city and walking everywhere.

    1. It's interesting to me to think about why some memories are so vivid and others, ones I'd have thought would be clearer, aren't.

even in the witching hour - that is so visual and I am imagining an alive, sentient exhalation working well and satisfied in the middle of the night... !!

  6. An unburied breath....like an unburied memory. Dreams startle and amaze me. Sometimes frighten me. I think lots of people have been helped with C-pap machines.

    1. My dreams have gotten insanely more vivid since I started using it. LOL, and yeah, there were a few that weren't so great. But some have been delightful. It's just amazing that my ability to dream and remember what I dreamt, came roaring back. Also my renewed energy is wonderful. I wake up feeling like I'm 30 again.

    1. A C-PAP machine is prescribed for people diagnosed with sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when people stop breathing in their sleep. If that happens enough for a long period of time it can cause chronic lethargy, sleepiness in the day, weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart issues, etc. The number of times I stopped breathing in the night was high enough to be concerning. The level my blood oxygen dropped to was alarming, so my doctor got me fitted for a machine right away. I don't know for sure when my sleep issues started (I would guess sometime around 2021), but it can't be denied I feel so much better after about a month of using this thing. I still need to decide on a name for it.

  10. Why do I practically see you giving your C-PAP machine googly eyes? I do understand the relief that comes with finding something that eases our burdens. Oh, being able to sleep restfully after all this time... What a gift!

Also, you and machine need to get a room. 😜
