Hope as sharp as lion’s teeth
devouring all the concrete that buries you
until you can
unfurl yourself under the encouraging sun
and make your own wishes
fly far and wide.

Liner Notes for this Groove: This song is linked to Poets and Storyteller United's Friday Writing Prompt, Fascinating. I'm not sure how obscure this fact really is, but it always tickled me that the word dandelion originates from Latin meaning "lion's teeth".
What a beautiful sentiment! I wish the same for you, Rommy!
ReplyDeleteThank you ,Debra
DeleteA wonderful wish! And beautifully expressed. I'll take it on board, and send it back to you too.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Rosemary
DeleteSame wish back to you, Rommy! Sometimes hope can be made to sound insipid but not under your pen. I love the idea of it being so strong.
ReplyDeleteHope is a lot more punk than people give it credit for.
Delete"concrete that buries you" took me to all the images of people buried under the rubble in Gaza... hope is much needed.... :(
ReplyDeleteThat was not in my mind when I wrote this peace, but I can easily see how applicable that is. So much hope is needed, along with healthy dollops of sense.
DeleteI meant piece not peace... or did I? That's a heck of a Freudian slip.
DeleteI like to think of hope with sharp teeth!
ReplyDeleteHope needs every last molar sharpened to meet the troubles of the world today.
DeleteDo you remember the "Big Yellow Taxi" song? ""They paved paradise to put up a parking lot" and "Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now" . . . written, composed, and originally recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell in 1970?
ReplyDelete..
I know there was a cover of that song by Counting Crows. I didn't know Joni Mitchell was the original artist.
DeleteRemember it well! On JM's web site someone posted a long rant in praise of DDT below that song. I added a succinct one about the Vicious Spray Cycle...
ReplyDeleteIt seems like such a silly little song, and she *sang* it like a throwaway line. And it sticks in people's heads. For fifty years!
That is a line that definitely hangs out in the brain forever.
DeleteI'm not anonymous, I'm Priscilla King, and I wish you the same and many more.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks Priscilla.
DeleteThank you for the New Year's wishes and right back at you. A hope that devours fear is a wonderful thought.
ReplyDeleteMay all those fears be gobbled up!
DeleteThank you for this lovely wish, and know I wish you the same.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou, my dearest friend, wish the best wishes.
ReplyDeleteIt's the teeth part, isn't it? :D
