Yes, I’m ridiculous
and quite aware of it.
I’m silly,
not blind
to confused buttercups
blooming in snow,
blooming in snow,
to melting hope…
There are terrors;
they would drown me,
choke me,
skin me -
they are real.
But so is my joy.
I’ll take my joy
in this moment,
in this moment,
make it my strength.
My tomorrow will come.
Song Choice: Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
This poem was inspired by a prompt over at Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads, a flash 55 word poem linked to one of the winners of National Geographic's photo contest for 2015.
Joy is a pretty good baseline! Take care of that in the new year! Thanks for uplifting poem. k.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hope the New Year has plenty of joy in store for you as well.
DeleteThe buttercups appreciate your attention. What a great attitude comes across in these words! Happy place!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteCan joy over come to confused buttercups melting hope and terrors? By determination and concentration your poet will force it to be.
ReplyDeleteMy question, "Would this work in the real world?" Time might tell.
..
LOL, of course it can't. Not by itself anyway. However, remembering that the things that bring us joy are worth fighting for, whatever the outcome may be, might be what saves us all in the end.
DeleteSuch a joyous photo. I love your POV here, but really the bear's words could be our own. Such a strong message.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it!
DeleteLoverly as always!
ReplyDelete:) I love the word loverly. I need to revisit My Fair Lady again with the kids, just for the song with that word in it.
DeleteI love being ridiculous and totally aware of it...This made me smile!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to be ridiculous, may as well own it!
DeleteYes! I know I am ridiculous!
ReplyDelete*raises a glass in Laura's direction*
DeleteRidiculous is only in the eye of the beholder... don't worry be happy... could be a song as well.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I still like Welcome to the Black Parade better for the song choice.
DeleteI really love this!! Happy New Year Rommy :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, hope your new year will be wonderful!
DeleteAs long as we can take the joy and smack it into the horrors, we'll be able to make our happiness real for us.
ReplyDeleteI shall stay "ridiculously aware" with you! :-D
I like the idea of smacking the horrors around until they have manners good enough for tea.
DeleteI'd wager you are ridiculously cool, too. :)
ReplyDeleteA fine pen ~
Aw! Thanks! :)
