Roaring Like the Twenties

Baby vamp you’re the bee’s knees.
It may be the rum running the show,
but you’re the most scintillating thing
in this juice joint.

You can’t spell scintillate
without sin.
Sin ‘til eight?
Let’s sin past 1, 2 or 3.

Say, let’s sin like it’s goin' out of style.
The real sin would be letting you go,
before the sun’s had a chance,
to see your smile.

Song Choice: Let's Misbehave

This post was inspired Imaginary Garden With Real Toad's Weekend Mini-prompt: Fashion Me Your Words, Pierrot Grenade, a group I have happily become an official part of. Hop on over for some more witty word play from my fellow Toads.

  1. Yes - and I love that last stanza

  2. Sin till the sun comes up? Scintillation will be worn down by then, it should anyway. I don't know if girls party till morning or not. We guys did but I generally went to sleep with the music still playing.

    1. Perhaps, but a good nap can be quite refreshing to the young, as my memory recalls, and scintillation will be kicking up it's heels by twilight.

  3. This is a wonderful response to the prompt, Rommy. I love how you worked your word as the theme of the poem.

  4. Love this - never tried to scintillating like this but it would be a caste to be up late without some sin..

    1. LOL, I presume you meant shame not caste and certainly not chaste! Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Nothing like homemade hooch tipped from a top hat onto a flapper's smooch. Now that's misbehavin'!

  8. This put a huge smile on my face. I could almost see you rapping it aloud, your hands and facial expressions dancing to its tune. :-)

  9. Lovely! This has exactly that rambunctious snark that I associate with the 20s and the way people spoke. Nice work. Fun read.
