Summer's Charm

Summer is a show off.
Draped in vines encircling hips,
and occulting flowers,
Summer stretches out an arm
drawing you in.

Drawing you in, seedling in full quiver,
and insisting you bear the heat
as glitter tongued Summer
licks each longing leaf and petal.

You wait your turn for Adam Eve kisses,
murmuring lily oaths
into Summer’s bejeweled ears.

“Oh dear love,” Summer whispers
with lupine lips brushing your skin.
“Speak to me in snapdragon sighs.
Be bold when you kiss back,
and I will withhold nothing.”

And you do. You kiss back,
until your firefly eyes see clear
after the poppy bliss of daylight.
And the night wind carries
chamomile caresses after a day
well spent, with Summer’s promise
of “Again, at dawn’s first light.”

  2. Sometimes summer is so much glitz, like a parcel wrapped in silk bows without a content... but how we love the perfect parcel. Love your descriptions, you prove exactly how flowery can be wont of real bloom.

  3. So nice, Rommy. I got all tied up into this and just into it a little I was actually thinking thar this was a boy-girl affair.
p.s. I probably won't write for this as it is busy-busy here after our return from a three week frolic.

  9. "Speak to me in snapdragon sighs." I'm inviting this line for tea. I want to swim into it and hear and feel all it offers. Such beautiful sentence. So much said in so few words. This is beautiful summer poetry, Rommy. And deliciously heated for the season.

  12. I don't know who isn't seduced by summer--I mean, the sensual assault here is one long kiss from door to bed, from last to first light. I read this and thought, I'll have what this poet's having.

  20. Summer is indeed a show off - and as you have painted her a quite contrary friend... though the excitement of seeking her..befriending her is perhaps one of life's mysterious charms
