my heart to become
your blank slate
upon which to carve
soothing stories for yourself
of a time and place
that never was.
No matter how
you reject or dismiss
its audacious beat,
the truth roars
in my heart’s blood -
loud, primal -
and drowning out the lies.

The heart must always speak its truth!
ReplyDeleteHere, here!
DeleteWow, I love the powerful assertiveness in this!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosemary
DeleteI smile a little, no one should offer an entirely blank slate to their heart. "Mrs. Jim stole my heart:, I carry a picture with an arrow through, with those words below the drawing in my Bible, it's been there 48 years that we have been married. She blushes every time I come to it and with a nudge (in church) show it to her.

Aw, that is so sweet! Congrats on a life filled with love!
DeleteIt is always sad to see one partner subservient to the other when the whole idea is their joining together equally.
ReplyDeleteThat is very sad indeed
DeleteI'm always a little uncomfortable at those wedding ceremonies where they extinguish their individual candles to light only one. While I believe in the togetherness of marriage, I think individuality must be retained. I like your poem very much.
ReplyDeleteI think the strongest relationships I've seen typically involve each partner respecting the other's individual nature and not seeing it as something to absorb or mimic.
DeleteWriting your darkest thoughts on heart's blank slate .... no one must ever see/know. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Helen

DeleteTouche. A strong poem that gives insight into the intuitive feeling of being lied to.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Colleen. Yes, I definitely wanted to capture that moment that someone realizes there's an attempt going on to gaslight them (or be used to gaslight others).
DeleteToo many people out there deceive themselves. And this is bad enough. But when they try to make us unwilling conspirators in their deception, saying "No!" is a must.
ReplyDelete100% Yes. This.
Deletethere's no two ways on this, no compromise, no negotiations.
ReplyDeletestrong poem.
Love the boldness in your poem, Rommy. It also gives me hope that truth will always prevail no matter the lies we are fed, nowadays.
ReplyDeleteLet your heart speak! Strong, powerful words! Big Hugs!
