Wherever Flickers Your Unreal

Wherever flickers your unreal
I shall lay in delight.
I will allow my limbs to rest,
nestled into the contours of you.

Lover, I am tired,
and your arms are a haven
for a weary warrior
caught up in the far too real
glass shard world
eager to cut tender hearts into confetti
to be thrown at the feet of monsters.

Let me pause, here, in your unreal.
Let me drink from your oasis.
Replenish me fully
with the gentle delirium of your kiss.
And when I rise to fight again,
it will be with the memory of your love inside me.

This poem was inspired by the prompt over at Dash of Sunny's Prompt Nights: Tomorrow When the Sun Will Rise, Who Knows What the Tide May Bring. I was so captivated by the poem she posted as inspiration (Song by Muriel Rukeyser) that I borrowed a line from it for the title. This being the anniversary of David Bowie's death also inspired my words a bit today. It's also linked to Imaginary Gardens With Real Toad's Tuesday Platform.

"Let me pause, here, in your unreal." I love this line among many which are perfectly phrased.

    1. Well, that is one way to look at it. I think the peace of being with someone you love can feel like a Disney movie while the world seems more like a Grimm's tale outside your door.

  5. I think I would have thought of "into my arms" as music... we do need that nest of someone else to live through the glass hard world...

    1. Heroes was at the forefront of my mind while I was writing so I felt I should go with that. Do you have an artist name or link to the song you mentioned? I'd like to hear it.

  6. Truly magically composed. Who cannot die in that ending (beginning). "Let us pause..."

  7. Our reality is never as strong as when we are tethered to it by the memories and feelings of those who keep our hearts warm... and believing in better things. Love the tenderness (and desperate need to tell) of this piece. It reads like a gasp that married a sigh, to birth something completely new.

  10. I love the title alone - very few people in the world can touch so many and offer a sense of both safety and flying away from the ordinary - I too felt that way about Bowie.. a dignified man.. who gave the best of his light to us

  11. Truly lovely, Rommy. It focuses on the truth that real love lifts us out of the "too-real" hurt of life and comforts and strengthens us for living in that life when we have to.
