Spring Morning

The sky tastes like a shortbread cookie
infused with that lavender feeling
of flying so high with the thermal surfing hawks.

I bite into it with my eyes
letting the crisp blue melt
from crumbly sweetness
to buttery delight
that seeps into my spirit.

Blue sky is the perfect accompaniment
to red-gold sun rising up
scented like a chai tea, peppery yet sweet.
The sun tastes like “Wake up!”
and sings “Are you ready to go?”

One last dunk of shortbread in tea,
one last glance at the morning,
and my curls bob the answer, “Yes”
as I set off on my day.

  11. That's a delicious spring day, Rommy! I love the idea of lavender shortbread cookie sky - is that why it's known as daybreak?

  13. Rommy, you make me want to put more poetry in my reading cycle. You always have such a bubbly, lyrical, and sharp writer's eye. You never fail to grab hold of the most wonderful little details and wrap them in bows and ribbon. I love every single time I see one of your wordy wanderlusts walking across my screen.

  23. Only if, the weather outside, could be, like your poem describes, instead of, the cold, raw, bitter taste of a lemon, that winter is leaving here, in Toronto, this close, to spring.

  26. I stared at the sky today. Longer than usual because the tints of pink and orange were stunning in the white puffs and blue background. It wasn't sunrise, but now I realize, it still tasted like shortbread. Yum.
