- Because though her boots and umbrella don’t match, they’re both cute in their own way and should be seen and used for splashing.
- Because even though yesterday was a wash day, she’s got an interesting hat (that also doesn’t match) to protect her hair.
- Because spreadsheets will still be there when she gets back, but rainstorms are now.
- Because there’s nothing like a good shower to get over a block. It works for writing, why not this?
- Because she can imagine she’s attending a cherry blossom funeral, watching yesterday’s petals get swept along the roadways, and out to the drains that lead to something bigger somewhere else.
- Because no one stops to make small talk in the rain.
- Because the rain doesn’t care if you leak water too.
- Because there has to be a rainbow at the end of all this, dammit. I haven’t been out here all this time just to go inside without seeing a rainbow.
- Because angry-splashing so hard that rainwater makes it up and inside my boot makes me laugh.
- Because I feel there’s something mad and lovely about laughing in the rain too.
- Because I see a neighbor giving me an odd look out the window, and that makes me laugh harder until the rain slows down.
- Because petrichor.
- Because it might be little, but, finally, there’s that rainbow I needed.

Song Choice: I Like to Walk in the Rain by Shirley Temple
Liner Notes For This Groove: This poem was created for Poets and Storyteller United's Weekly Scribblings prompt, Listmania.
They're whispering behind their hands about you in your neighbourhood, you know. Good work!
ReplyDeleteIt is a point of pride for me, yes :D
DeletePerhaps the wandering eyes too, wish they were brave enough to step out.
ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of room in the puddles! *splash*
DeleteI love #5 most of all. And then, in a different way, #6. And the ending is lovely. And it's all fun. And I take my hat off to you. And you wont catch me walking in the bloody rain if I don't have to! (We've had rather too much of it here these last few months.)
ReplyDeleteLOL, I'm trying to get better about walking since my mom gave me a fit bit on my birthday. It's a small way to nudge my fitness goals. And if I'm enjoying myself as I go, bonus!
DeleteGotta keep them talking, haha!
ReplyDeleteI used to love filling my boots with rainwater as a kid, unfortunately I no longer feel that way, haha! Glad you enjoy it!
Well, I wouldn't want to hang out like that all day. It was a joy to take them off when I got home.
DeleteBrilliant, Rommy! One question and thirteen answers – unlucky for some, but not for you. I identify with most of them – not the spreadsheets, though! I especially love ‘attending a cherry blossom funeral, watching yesterday’s petals get swept along the roadways, and out to the drains that lead to something bigger somewhere else’ (I’m watching cherry blossom falling in my garden) and laughing at angry splashing!
ReplyDeleteSpreadsheets are a fact of my daily life. But I shouldn't complain too much, since being good with them meant no problems working from home.
DeleteLuv item #8
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday
Much💚love
Thanks, Gillena
DeleteWe can forgivev the rain if a rainbow is included!
ReplyDeleteThere's that. :D
Delete"Because the rain doesn’t care if you leak water too." This line nearly broke me in two. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteIt pulled a little something from me to write it too.
Delete#6 and #7 ~ priceless in a list that is satisfying / sweet.
ReplyDeleteRain is very underappreciated in the matter of avoiding small talk.
DeleteLove this, especially #7!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI love #11. It made me laugh, too, with delight
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
DeleteOh, a rainbow is just the icing on the cake. A rain walk is wonderful, but gosh, we always have lightning. I have not had a rain walk in a long time. Next best thing is early morning beach walk when its misty. Umbrellas dont help. You just come home with dripping wet hair, but that's ok too.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I've been on those walks too. And they are perfectly OK, when finished up with a cuppa warm tea and a towel when arriving at home. :D
Delete"O Great!! I sure am glad I didn't lose this umbrella."
ReplyDeleteI loved the 13 reasons, all starting with the word "Because", no bad luck here today.
My favorite list line is # 7, "Because the rain doesn’t care if you leak water too." I am stopped by it, I try to figure why that would be a reason for the "Crazy Woman Out Walking in the Rain?"
On Day 27 of NaPoWriMo, April 27, I wrote a list poem, all 30 of my lines started with he word, "Things".
I also coined a new 'initialism', "Twdt"; things we did then. I may post it for this week's "Writer's Pantry" as it only had one comment.
..
I am always delighted when my pieces get people asking themselves questions. See you at the Pantry on Sunday!
DeleteI love this Rommy! For me, this is a release! Being you, doing you, letting everything out! Let the neighbours talk, while you laugh! I like #6! LOL! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the release!
DeleteWhat one will do for a rainbow. I love the form. I think you should share it at the Thirteen Thursday blog hop. http://newthursday13.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks Colleen! I'll add it to this upcoming week's Thursday 13.
DeletePetrichor -- I learned a new word and it's a great reason to walk in the rain.
ReplyDeleterain can be so very versatile
ReplyDeleteI loved this, Rommy. The fellow rain-walker I am identified with it! Well written.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Rommy
