so many brilliant and subtle hues—
yet I find my hand seeking
for Picasso blue,
reaching for the shade
to underline a year’s worth of words.

Liner Notes for this Groove: This poem was created for the Friday Writings prompt at Poets and Storytellers United, Color or the Absence of Color
And oh, what a wonderful blue it is! Everyone thinks purple is my favourite colour because I wear it a lot, and I do love it – but my true favourite colour has always been blue, and most of all this deep, vibrant blue I see here.
ReplyDeleteThinking over what I know of the year you've just had, I imagine your choice of this colour reflects unbearable grief. Yet there is also so much light in it, which I trust is true for you too. ("we are weeping for that which has been our delight" – Gibran.)
I adore sky blue and flame red. Those colors make me very happy. Of course I also adore purples and greens. That is a lovely quote by Gibran.
DeleteBlue is my favourite colour!
ReplyDeleteIt is rather lovely, isn't it?
DeleteI find blue a very peaceful colour and not sad, but I know it represents sadness for a lot of people
ReplyDeleteIt depends for me. But yes, overall, I think of blue as soothing. Maybe its soothing quality is just what's needed when things get super heavy.
DeletePicasso had double blues, frequent recoveries from the drunken state and also from getting involved with the down trodden folk he was painting in his scenes. But "the blues" saying was around before his time. I had not heard of "the Picasso blue" as a color before reading your poem. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAn aside, about half of my wardrobe has a blue emphasis. I don't think I am feeling depressed, most times. I pretty well, at my age, figured out how to recover from a case of the dumps. Not booze though, I only drink wine socially most times, I had two bottles of beer last year, three of the six are still in my refrigerator.
I'm sure your Picasso blue painting is pretty, I'd like to see some. On your blog?
..
I just liked the way Picasso blue sounded as a phrase. It brought some neat images to my mind.
DeletePicasso Blue, Blue Velvet, Blue Moon, Blue Suede Shoes, Blue Bayou ~~~ oh yes, my favorite color too.
ReplyDeleteIt can be very soothing
DeleteThere, now, you've given us the blues!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
DeleteOh the sky above . Blue moods and art. Wonderful
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
to underline a year’s worth of words.... love how you've put that.. Picasso's blue paintings do really speak volumes! (third time am trying to get my comment to post... fingers crossed!)
ReplyDeleteSuccess!
DeleteYeah, I took a look at several recently on line and I was struck by the depth of emotion in them. They didn't sell very well when he was alive though.
I like the idea of giving a year of words (and of living) a color. I wonder what color 2021 would be...
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for more phoenix colored hues in 2022
DeleteI love Picasso Blue. Uplifting!! If I had to choose one color to color words, it would be blue.
ReplyDeleteIf this is your blue period, it suits you well. xo
ReplyDeleteLovely lines,Rommy.
