My hair is too big for the cap I was given. Blowing myself a
kiss, I let it fall along its natural part and adorn it with flowers,
unconcerned if they match my dress.
It is tiring
to prune one's blooms to conform.

I agree. It is rather more exhausting to try and be someone else, than it is to just be yourself. I wonder why it is so difficult to accept ourselves as we are. We can be so overly critical of ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThose are the rebellions we need.
Surely.
Viva le revolucion!
DeleteTotally! In this case, the conformity would be harmful vanity. When to follow the crowd and when to stay free?
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the ability to discern the best way for ourselves.
Delete"Rebel by loving yourself."...Absolutely.
ReplyDeleteAgreed :)
DeleteSometimes life itself is tiring...

I am so tired of seeing articles that say things like "What not to wear after age 40!" etc. Says who? ;)
I'm right with you, De.
DeleteI hate those lists with the burning passion of a thousand suns.
DeleteLove this!💕 Often it is that us women are misled by definitions of beauty especially through media. How wise of you to state to 'Rebel by loving yourself.'💕
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it
DeleteI LOVE "Rebel by loving yourself."
ReplyDeleteI really was pleased when it fit the tanka
DeleteThere is power and beauty in worshiping ourselves as we are, in baring teeth at anyone who tries to say we should change (or, even more disrespectful, that we would be better if we changed).
ReplyDeleteHell yeah!
DeleteIf you don't love yourself who will? If only we all would realize this we would be a lot happier, then others are happy to make your aquaintance. How right you are Rommy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin :)
DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteWoot! :)
DeleteThe only way to be truly free.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara
DeleteAh, this is such a special poem! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry. I had a lot of fun writing it.
DeleteWhat an affirmative and strong message this poem has, but also a very feminine one, reveling in beauty and in the grace of life. Very happy to see you at the 55, Rommy, and please have a kickass weekend.
ReplyDeleteVery happy to be back at it Joy :)
DeleteAnd THAT will be the best rebellion ever. Rebel rebel, you torn your dress....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that song. Crank it up!
DeleteRebel in the best of ways... find your own way, shackles of conformity is the worst thing
ReplyDeleteI'm up for healthy rebellion.
