Natural

My hair is too big for the cap I was given. Blowing myself a kiss, I let it fall along its natural part and adorn it with flowers, unconcerned if they match my dress.

It is tiring
to prune one's blooms to conform.
Define glamour
by the plumage that suits you.
Rebel by loving yourself.

Song Choice: Confident by Demi Lovato

This poem was created for the Midweek Motif at Poet's United: Narcissus (Vanity/Narcissism). I am also linking it up to the Friday 55 over at Verse Escape.

  1. I agree. It is rather more exhausting to try and be someone else, than it is to just be yourself. I wonder why it is so difficult to accept ourselves as we are. We can be so overly critical of ourselves.

Those are the rebellions we need.
    Surely.

  2. Totally! In this case, the conformity would be harmful vanity. When to follow the crowd and when to stay free?

I am so tired of seeing articles that say things like "What not to wear after age 40!" etc. Says who? ;)

  5. Love this!💕 Often it is that us women are misled by definitions of beauty especially through media. How wise of you to state to 'Rebel by loving yourself.'💕

  7. There is power and beauty in worshiping ourselves as we are, in baring teeth at anyone who tries to say we should change (or, even more disrespectful, that we would be better if we changed).

  8. If you don't love yourself who will? If only we all would realize this we would be a lot happier, then others are happy to make your aquaintance. How right you are Rommy.

  10. What an affirmative and strong message this poem has, but also a very feminine one, reveling in beauty and in the grace of life. Very happy to see you at the 55, Rommy, and please have a kickass weekend.
