The Apple

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,
except of course when it does.

And who’s to say what will happen
once it’s done falling.

Especially if it has a good view
of the valleys all around it

with hills just perfect for rolling in.

The Son of Man by René Magritte

  1. Oh, how I love that! Such fun, picturing that individualistic apple having a wonderful roll in those hills and valleys.

  2. This is my kind of apple--adventurous, curious, and willing to roll with the falling.

I love the tone of this poem. I can hear the apple cackling. Readying herself for more rolling.

And I've always loved the delicious painting you chose!

  6. A huge grin on my face ~~ we have an apple tree that doesn’t bear a lot of fruit. One of the apples stuck around till mid December and one day simply plopped to the ground! Love your apple tale.

  8. As long as it's not the bad apple that spoils the bunch... sounds like rather an adventurous one that's able to roll with it!

  13. Having been a hill roller downer in my boyhood I can imagine the thrill of that apple that probably never thought such an adventure could be achieved.

  14. You don't stop if you're on a roll? Keep on rolling? It's because they were a high roller or like a rolling stone?
    I'm sorry, please forgive me.
Yours is a fun way to look at falling far from that tree.

  17. Great fun; and you certainly got to the core of that apple's adventures.

  18. We are not the only ones to enjoy an adventure plus it is always wise to choose a place to grow by yourself.

  19. I love the fun in this, and who's to say that apples don't have fun after freeing themselves from the tie of the tree. Go apple, go!

  20. Delighted by the optimism and acceptance in this one ..the envisioning the positive possibility of differentness and a fall.

  25. Will it fall or just keep the view in flight? Will it pick place for a new tree? So many questions. I feel like you've given me a tiny fable that's going to grow in the thinking. :)
