Tea, chased by coffee, followed by more tea,
when I was young and had no respect.
It’s more stagger than swagger these days,
when I ignore that need.
I used to complain about
all the things I could get done,
if I didn’t have to.
Now I marvel at how little I can do without it.

Thank you for your visit to my blog. The layout was purposeful for the Bulldozer. Happy you think it worked.

DeleteIt's the "memory gap" thing that winds me up lol...sure I went to bed, just don't remember sleeping :D XXX
ReplyDeleteUgh, that's the worst! You know you just lay down and then, what the heck is morning doing over here? I really want to smack my college self for taking it for granted.
DeleteStory of my life, lady. :-) Caffeine might as well be a food group or a macro-nutrient because my body doesn't work without it.
ReplyDeleteGood write.
I don't know what I'd do without caffeinated goodness in my life!
Delete"More stagger than swagger" -- great line!
ReplyDeleteYeah, and it isn't a cool Johnny Depp as a pirate stagger. More of a Dawn of the Dead feel to it!
DeleteSo true! Perfect explanation for the outcome!
ReplyDeletePretty much!
DeleteMore stagger than swagger,--you aren't kidding! I definitely can relate.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I stagger towards the general direction of a caffeinated beverage, it's all good.
DeleteMore stagger than swagger. Best line of the day.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm quite partial to that line as well.
DeleteTime takes away a lot of sleep over a lifetime in connection to pain.
ReplyDeleteIt does. Illness as well as age can rob us of it.
DeleteThis is singing to me. The first stanza had me nodding; two years ago, I could get with 5 hours of sleep... Today? Well, as you already know, I nap more than a cat.
ReplyDeleteI like how the second stanza sounds so "grownup": I know better now, it says.
It's something of a trick to pull of the right feel from paragraph to paragraph. I wanted playfulness in the first and sober reflection in the second. Glad that I could convey that a bit.
DeleteTea gets me by, I can't have caffeine. I can't sleep and my heart races.
ReplyDeleteI like coffee but I have to manage it carefully because I find it plays too rough as well! Only before noon, only the good stuff and only when I know I'll have the opportunity to ride the energy burst and resulting crash well.
