First, I make a list.
At least I would, if I remembered it.
Then I should gather all the necessary supplies,
which I would have accounted for on that list.
One
slow
breath
in.
A fine idea indeed.
Find
where
I
stand.
Standing means not crawling.
Standing means not crawling.
And then I look for the punch line.
Song Choice: It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M.
This poem was created from a prompt offered by Magaly Guerrero for NaPoWriMo (Day 25: Anticipating Mayhem - write a poem about how you ready yourself before facing known troubles, and what you do to cope once mayhem has done its thing).
Nice! This is great. Love it. I am a list-maker and a forget-everything-without-my-list type person too so I can really relate to this. It's also just funny and I love me some funny. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I do get around to making a list I tend to feel so accomplished I forget what I wrote afterwards. :D
DeleteI'm always looking for the punch line. Its funny you used that phrase because punch line means many different things from joke to going in action. Nice.
ReplyDeleteExactly! :D
DeleteThe marshaling of the inner forces comes through like a trumpet blast here--and lists have saved my life many times. It doesn't really matter if the list gets lost or is incomplete--it's the control of making it. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Sometimes just knowing you can claim a small measure of control over some thing helps you deal with the stuff you can't control.
DeleteI like the last line.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the most important step :)
DeleteStanding means not crawling....fabulous statement XXX
ReplyDeleteGotta take your small victories when you can get them!
DeleteThis has such a wonderful beat. The outline quality of it speaks of the speaker's readiness, and her willingness not just to accept the possible chaos, but to roll with its punches while laughing.
ReplyDeleteYum!
Any plan to deal with chaos almost has to be an outline because you need to be ready for curve balls. And if you can laugh a bit while rolling, so much the better.
DeleteP.S. List makers will rule the world!
ReplyDeleteSomeone organized ought to!
DeleteLists and punchlines! What an excellent combo! Thanks for letting me in on your secret. I will be adding the punchlines to my every growing list making mania. I like that you stand and are prepared to laugh!
ReplyDeleteFinding the part to laugh at has helped my sanity many a time. :)
DeleteAhhh lists. Yes, I am forgetful and making them helps. But remembering to breathe is also important!
ReplyDeleteLOL, yeah I don't recommend holding one's breath :D
