Life Commences

Pomp and circumstance won’t feed
a spirit raised to understand
that celebration can’t be experienced as mere ceremony,

especially when existence provides
a multitude of ways to be joyful.

Liner Notes for this Groove: This poem is linked to the Friday Writings post at Poets and Storytellers United. Congratulations are in order for my Darling Eldest who graduated college just last week. While he can be sentimental, he's not one for tradition for tradition's sake. So he opted not to attend the ceremony. Instead, we'll celebrate once my husband shakes off the last dredges of the coronavirus.

    1. Everyone affected is much better, and my husband is finally testing negative for COVID. I suspect the cough may hang around for a while, as might the fatigue. But improvement is improvement.

    1. I'm proud of Darling Eldest for multiple reasons. LOL, I don't know that I can take too much credit for him being how he is, but at least I know I tried not to stand in the way of him being authentically himself.

    1. LOL, I barely remember either of my own graduation ceremonies so I wasn't too fussed by his decision.

  13. `10 000 maniacs - always a good choice.

I attended my high school graduation, but never for any of my most secondary. Too much pomp indeed.

    1. 10,000 Maniacs brings me back to my college days. :D And yeah, while I have fond memories of my time there, I barely remember the graduation ceremony.
