Ink Blot

I’ve felt too much
like an ink blot girl.

People see things
in all my adjectives

and form shapes from them
that may or may not
have anything to do with reality.

There is depth and dimension
within my hues

even if people pretend not to see them.

What they think they see
reveals a lot about who they are.

I’m still trying to make up my mind

about what it is that I see.

  1. If one cannot make up their mind, perhaps the whole world is in front of them...
I like your reflection that people sometimes make up their minds that have very little to do with reality. Much truth there.

  2. How we see ourselves is indeed crucial.

so very true about perspectives and inner feelings

    Happy Wednesday

  5. People usually only see what they want to see. I love that simile ‘like an ink blot girl’, something I would see in a Rorschach test, although I see you wearing a dress covered in a pattern of ink blots!

    1. That'd be a cool dress to have. LOL, I'm very fond of odd print dresses. I think I secretly envied Ms. Frizzle on Magic School Bus.

  6. Hmmm. Just as we can listen but not hear, we can look but not see. Something to think about!

  7. That's what good writing is all about, isn't it -- depth beyond the superficial. And being a good reader involves the capacity to see and understand it.

    1. It's not always easy to pull off. And I know I've been lazy sometimes as a reader. But it's cool to me when I'm reading and go "Hey, wait a minute!" and catch a nuance that gives things a richer meaning.

  8. This is absolutely stunning in its depth, Rommy!💝 It's incumbent that we care not if the world chooses to belittle our being. We are the light!🥰

  9. We should never be ashamed about being ourselves; different, interesting or humorous. Critics are alway jealous that they can't be as interesting as us!

    1. I'm all for letting those critics grouse on their own.

  10. This made me a think a little about being prepared to see something--having an idea of what "should" be seen versus coming to something new.

    1. Yes! And it's hard to come into a situation without a "should" sometimes. I think kids have an easier time of it.

  12. Oh girl. Never be an ink blot. You are who you are. Make your own path and let others follow, although I think you already do. "What they think they see...etc." ...well, that's THEIR problem. Definitely revealing.

    1. It's really interesting what gets revealed to me sometimes by my responses to things. LOL, but then again thinking (and over-thinking) is a hobby of mine.

  15. The more you look at that ink blot...... Love how you've woven this mystery.

  16. Very intriguing Loved it especially "What they think they see
reveals a lot about who they are." True We see and hear what fits with how we are. We are very selective and filter out what fits with our ideas.

    1. True. And a little selectivity isn't a bad thing either.

  19. Yes, at times it is difficult to know what we’re seeing. In these very surreal times. Well spoken❣️❣️🙏

  20. Sure, make up your own mind. Take your time. There's no rush.

    1. Not rushing is a good thing, because it makes the meaning much clearer.

  21. I think that some people's subjectivity has become so extreme that they don't see what's there unless it applies to them. If it hasn't happened to them, if it doesn't affect them directly, if it's not about them they miss it and misunderstand it. Perhaps, that is one of the reasons why seeing ourselves (and having a handful of people who can see us as we are) is so important. The alternative might include a lot of frustrated screaming and, on particularly difficult days, maybe taking the whole world to the obvious-ink-well and hope that they will see reality before someone drowns them in it.

    1. Yeah, there's something about the extreme self-centeredness of some people these days that makes me want to scream into the nearest void.

  22. Sometimes when we look at others we see back into ourselves.....not always a comfortable thing! We were all wearing masks of sorts before it became mandatory!

  23. The vision of ourselves is crucial to any kind of peace, confidence, joy. I love you called yourself and ink blot girl.

  24. “Ink blot girl” - love that description. Makes me think of me. That’s what gives poetry its flavor- so many different meanings to so many people.
